Academic Support
The Academic Support Department at SACS was established 19 years ago. At that stage, the Department of Education abolished all full time remedial teachers’ posts. With this decision taken, SACS was given a part time remedial teacher who came in for two hours a week. She was able to take four boys in a school of 600.
The Academic Support Department now forms an integral part of the school and assists many boys needing support at various stages of their schooling at SACS. Boys who may need support are identified by class and subject teachers and assessed by a qualified Clinical Remedial teacher at the school to ascertain the nature and extent of the problem. We then offer tailored, private individual lessons. Parents are also offered home programmes, which help parents to work effectively with their sons to build their reading, phonics and handwriting skills.
Should any parents have concerns about their son’s academic progress at SACS, they are welcome to discuss their concerns with their son’s class teacher and the Head of Academic Support. We are here to offer advice and assistance for boys and their parents.
