The Foundation Phase lays the groundwork for all formal schooling. During the Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 years we aim to ensure that every boy we teach has strong Literacy, Numeracy and Life Skills.  These are the core subjects that every boy needs as he continues through life.

At SACS Junior, there are four classes in each Grade with approximately 25 boys in each class.  The teachers are all qualified Foundation Phase teachers and an experienced Head of Department leads the team.

The Curriculum follows the National Department of Educations guidelines. The class teachers are supported by a variety of specialist subject teaching in Art, IT, Library, Music and Physical Education.  This gives the boys opportunities to broaden their skills in these vital areas.  Outings are also organised every term so that the boys have opportunities to enrich their learning.

There is a strong tradition of extra-murals in a variety of different spheres.  These include Sport, Art Club, Chess and Drama.  Each boy has a chance to select area in which he wishes to participate outside the core curriculum.

The ethos in the Foundation Phase is based on recognising that every boy we teach is a unique individual.  We do not only focus on the academics but want our boys to develop into dynamic individuals who are happy, confident and looking forward to the challenges of life ahead.
