Climbing

SACS Climbing Club

Building confidence and skill one climb at a time

What we do.

The SACS Climbing Club teaches your children to rock climb and abseil on a regular, weekly basis (once a week) during term time under the expert coaching of Ross Suter of High Adventure Africa.

Climbing club members have access to all the necessary equipment and are, at all times, personally supervised by Ross to ensure a fun and safe experience.

When we do it.

Summer terms sessions – Mon & Thurs (15:00 – 18:00).

Winter terms – Wed & Thurs (15:00 – 17:30).

Children should arrive at the relevant meeting place 10 min before the session starts and be collected 15 minutes after the end of sessions, giving us time to get to and from the climbing area.

Who can do it.

Children from the age of 8 can sign up to join the SACS Climbing Club. No prior experience is necessary, nor is the ownership of any specialised equipment required.

Children must be willing and able to do a short hike to the crags and, above all else, they need to have an interest or desire to climb and abseil.

Where we do it.

For outdoor climbing we use a range of accessible ‘singlepitch’ crags (small cliffs) in the central Peninsula area (Lakeside, Silvermine, Peers Cave). If the weather is bad we make use of the indoor climbing wall in the gym hall at SACS or the City Rock Gym in Observatory.

Why we do it.

Not only will climbing keep your child fit, increase strength and stamina and teach him a range of new, technical skills to enable him to participate in this growing sport, but it also teaches children a host of other invaluable life skills.

The Climbing Club fosters a love of nature and the outdoors, respect for the mountains and the elements as well as the discipline, camaraderie and increased self-esteem that comes with being a valued member of a team.

And we have a great deal of fun in the process!
